Walking with Giants: Reflections from The National Waqf Summit

Attending the Waqf Summit felt like I was about to embark on a path, walking with the giants — exploring how we invest today to leave something behind that continues to work for us.

It is not every day you get invited into a room where leading industry experts are talking about something so deeply noble, following right in the footsteps of our pious predecessors like Umar and Uthman radiAllahu anhuma. Attending the Waqf Summit felt like I was about to embark on a path, walking with the giants.

As Co-Director and especially as Governance, I attended this event as a personal invitee. Myself, and Aysha Bosher, CEO and Founder of Rosebuds Sisters have a keen interest to absorb the wisdoms behind a waqf. To learn real-life pros and cons of building a lasting endowment and what this would mean for our organisation, our members and a collective legacy.

As women who lead and support so many mothers, daughters, and sisters at every stage of life, these lessons hit home deeply. They hit home because death can overtake any of us at any moment. We aren't just looking at numbers or paperwork; we are asking ourselves how we invest today to leave something behind that continues to work for us; building a sanctuary of care and reward that outlives us.

Stepping through these insights, we explored: why Waqf, and why now — understanding how a Waqf serves as a timeless model for building lasting, sustainable institutions that genuinely transform a local community. Sincerity as the foundation: a powerful reminder that none of the above can truly begin without complete sincerity (Ikhlas). And where Waqf meets English Law: unpacking the blueprint, governance, and structural pathways needed to turn this vision into a practical reality for our organisation.

As we look toward the future of Rosebuds Sisters, we know that building a true legacy requires patience, prayer, and deep wisdom. While the exact roadmap is still unfolding, one thing is abundantly clear: a seed has been planted.

Something deeply special is beginning to take shape behind the scenes. A path that will allow us, together, to build something permanent for our community and our Akhirah. We don't have all the answers just yet, but we are filled with excitement and humility to facilitate this noble endeavour for our collective legacy.

Keep us in your duas and watch this space. The journey is only just beginning.
